  2. If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for about 3 minutes, then drain and rinse under cold water.
  3. If using canned beans, simply drain and rinse them.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Add the prepared green beans and half of the shredded cheddar cheese to the creamy mixture. Stir to combine.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
